Map Quiz
Find a country on the world map, or name the one that lights up.
What it is
The map game, in two directions. Find it gives you a country and asks where it is. Name it lights a country up and asks what it's called.
How to play
Find it
- A flag and a name appear: "Where is Paraguay?"
- Tap or click that country on the world map.
- Get it right and it turns green. Get it wrong and the map shows you both where you tapped and where the country really was.
Name it
- A country lights up gold on the map and the camera zooms to it.
- Type its name and press Enter.
Scoring and the clock
Both directions are timed, and both are the same for everyone on a given day. Name it gets a longer clock than Find it, because typing a country you can only see the shape of takes longer than pointing at one you've been handed the name of. Each counts separately on the hub, so you can finish one today and leave the other.
Moving around the map
Drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, and press the crosshair at the top right to snap back to the resting view. The map uses the Equal Earth projection, so countries near the poles aren't inflated the way they are on the Mercator maps most people grew up with. Greenland really is much smaller than Africa.
Practice
Both directions have an endless practice mode with no clock, running through all 197 countries in random order.
Tips
Anchor yourself on the big ones. If you know where Brazil, Nigeria, Kazakhstan and Indonesia are, most questions become "which neighbour of a country I already know is this?" Small island states are the ones worth learning deliberately, because they can't be found by reasoning from their neighbours.
