Privacy policy

Globely ("the site") is a free geography puzzle site operated by the Globely team. This page explains what happens to information when you use it. The short version: the games run entirely in your browser, and the only thing stored is your own streak, on your own device.

What the site stores

On your device

Globely saves a small record in your browser's local storage containing which days you played and whether you solved each puzzle. This is what makes your streak and your stats work. It never leaves your device, it is not sent to any server, and no one else can read it. Clearing your browser's site data erases it, and with it your streak.

On a server

Nothing. There is no account system, no login, no database of players and no analytics account collecting your behaviour. The puzzles are generated from the date by code running in your browser.

Information collected automatically by the host

The site is hosted on Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify's servers record standard technical information when a page is requested, such as the IP address, the time of the request and the browser's user agent. This is used to serve the site and protect it from abuse. See Netlify's own privacy documentation for details of their handling.

Advertising and cookies

Globely may display advertising supplied by Google. The following applies to that advertising:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
• Users may also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

Where required by law, including for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a consent notice is shown before any advertising cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.

Children

Globely is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. No account is required and no personal details are ever requested.

Your choices

• Erase your stats: clear this site's data in your browser settings, or play in a private window so nothing is kept at all.
• Block advertising cookies: decline in the consent notice where it appears, or use your browser's cookie controls.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site.
