Hot and Cold
Close in on a mystery country by distance.
What it is
One country is hidden somewhere in the world and you have unlimited guesses to find it. Every guess tells you how far away you are.
How to play
- Type any country and press Enter.
- You're told the distance from your guess to the answer, as the crow flies, and given a verdict: freezing, cold, warm, hot or scorching.
- If your guess shares a land border with the answer, it says so outright, the strongest clue in the game.
- Your guesses collect in a list ordered by distance, warmest at the top, so the shape of the search is always visible.
The map does the work
Each guess paints itself on the map in a heat colour, from deep blue for freezing to red for scorching, and the camera closes in as you get warmer. After a handful of guesses the map itself shows you roughly where the answer must be.
Daily and practice
The daily country is the same for everyone. Practice picks a random one and you can deal another as soon as you finish. Every country is in the pool, including small island states, which are still clickable on the map as dots.
Tips
Open with continents, not countries. A first guess in South America, a second in Central Asia and a third in the Pacific narrows the world far faster than three guesses in Europe. Once something comes back warm, switch to its neighbours and let the border hint finish the job.
